It is the country’s fishing capital, working one of the world’s richest fishing grounds; it is the terminus of the SNIM iron-ore railway, where ore mined far inland at Zouérat is loaded for export; and it hosts the Nouadhibou Free Zone, created to draw industry, services and fisheries.
