Gisenyi, in Rubavu District on the northern shore of Lake Kivu, is Rwanda’s western gateway. Its two crossings into Goma make it the country’s busiest formal border-trade point, with thousands crossing daily; Bralirwa — Rwanda’s largest brewer — has brewed at Gisenyi since 1959; and the town’s sandy beaches, waterfront hotels and water sports make it the country’s favourite lakeside resort, in one of Rwanda’s most densely populated trading districts.
That border-and-lakeside economy runs on physical goods: stock moving through cross-border warehouses and depots, kegs, crates and returnable containers through the brewing supply chain, FF&E across the resort hotels, chilled stock through F&B, and inventory across the trading streets. Manual methods cannot keep these accurate.
