The Hawassa Industrial Park, an eco-industrial park built for textile and apparel, is one of the country’s largest export earners and its best-known manufacturing platform; the surrounding highlands produce Sidama coffee, one of the world’s great coffee origins; Hawassa University anchors the city’s research base; and the lake’s fishery and a lakeside tourism economy round out the picture.
