Matola is Mozambique’s second-most-populous city and its principal heavy-industry and port-adjacent logistics hub, immediately west of Maputo and effectively part of the same metro. It is the site of the Mozal aluminium smelter in the Beluluane industrial park and of the Matola port terminal for coal, grain and liquid bulk. Note that Mozal’s primary production is currently suspended, on care and maintenance pending a power-tariff resolution — so the durable opportunity is the wider industrial park, port-adjacent logistics and metro economy, which remain active.
